RESIDENTS OF Ibadan were treated to an exciting roadshow and funfair on Monday as Higherlife Properties Consult Limited celebrated the grand opening of its new office complex in the Oyo state capital.
The roadshow kicked off from Ojoo, the location of the new office, en route to Orogun, the University of Ibadan’s main gate, and the ancient city’s Sango market.

Residents, among who were students, market men and women, entrepreneurs, motorists and pedestrians were entertained by professional dancers who were on ground to add colour to the event.

While the professional dancers thrilled the audience with nice and captivating dancing skills, the staff of Higherlife Properties Consult Limited engaged passersby introducing different business packages being run by the real estate company.

Fliers were also distributed to people to introduce the company’s products and services.

People were enlightened about the ‘Sack Your Landlord’ campaign, a business initiative of the company to patronizing the company’s business.

The commissioning of Higherlife new building complex was done after the highly engaging road funfair.

In his opening remark, Ambassador (Dr.) Victor Ohwo, Co-founder of Higherlife Properties Consult Limited, said the new height attained by the company with the grand opening of the office complex was a dream come true.

He extolled the virtues of his partner, Ambassador (Dr.) Kayode Ishola, who he described as “not my business partner or Co-founder, but my twin brother”.

Dr. Kunle Adeyemi, the Vice President of Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) expressed delight that the duo of Ambassador (Dr.) Victor Ohwo and Ambassador (Dr.) Kayode Ishola are making remarkable progress in the real estate industry.

Adeyemi, the CEO of Sterling Homes who has been in the real estate industry for two decades, said he was impressed that Ambassador (Dr.) Ohwo has evolved over the years and matched his ambition with results.

He spoke of his admiration for how the Higherlife Properties Consult Limited bosses have teamed up and remained loyal and united to one each other.

Dr. Adeyemi noted that the Co-founders of HigherLife Properties Consult are blazing the trail in the real estate industry because of the God factor through their impeccable character.

“I want to charge everyone present here today to be intentional about building their character and integrity just like these two have done”. I am also using this medium to challenge both of you that you should continue working towards expansion.”

“This new level you have attained will be the first in a series of higher levels as the name of the company suggests and you will expand beyond Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria by the grace of God”, he prayed.

Delivering a short sermon at the programme, Prof A.B. Saba made a reference to Nimrod in Genesis 10: 8 – 12. According to him, Nimrod was originally a hunter but he later became the first estate developer in the Bible. He emphasized the importance of tolerance and persistence to achieve good results.

“Your starting point does not matter. The hand of God upon you is of more importance. For Nimrod, the beginning was rough but he stayed true to the assignment God gave him and grew from being a hunter to becoming the first estate developer in the Bible.”

Pastor Saba also acknowledged the unity between the partners despite their family and tribal differences. He prayed for love and unity to continue between the duo and prophesied that Higherlife Properties Consult Limited would own cities.

Also speaking at the occasion, Pastor Ashamu of Deeper Life Bible Church challenged all present to make their slogan “no vacancy for parody and perfidy.” He said this has been the watchword for both Ambassadors Ishola and Ohwo.

In a short chat after the event, Ambassador Kayode Ishola expressed his gratitude to God for the company’s growth, which he said could not have been possible without the God factor.

He noted that having a partner like Ambassador Victor Ohwo is a blessing.

“When you have someone like him around you,nothing you set out to do will be impossible. We complement each other in so many ways and with him by my side, we can take on the world and win.”

Giving details about the ‘Sack Your Landlord’ campaign Ishola said it was a catchy business slogan of encouraging prospective people to key into their landed estates around Ibadan to become landlords of their own.

Brigadier General O.O Nafiu has been appointed as the new Director-General of NYSC by President Bola Tinubu.

Prior to his appointment, he was the Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, having also served in the same capacity with the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.

A Member of 47 Regular Course, Nafiu is an Artillery Officer who graduated from the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji and the US Army War College.

Before he was appointed Chief of Staff to the COAS, he was a Directing Staff at the Army War College, Nigeria.

The new NYSC DG hails from Ileogbo, the headquarters of Aiyedire Local Government Area of Osun State.

Nafiu, whose appointment takes immediatel effect replaces Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Higherlife Properties Consult Limited, one of the fastest growing real estate firms in Oyo state, will on Monday 3 March, 2025 hold the grand opening of its new office complex.

A statement issued by the company indicated that event which is scheduled for 10 a.m will hold at the new imposing edifice, Higherlife Building, that is located opposite First Bank Plc, Onile Aro Bus stop, Ojoo, Ibadan.

The grand opening will be graced by dignitaries such as Dr. Kunle Adeyemi, the Vice President of Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN); Dr. MKH, the Oyo state REDAN Chairman and Professor A.B. Saba from the University of Ibadan, amongst others.

The Chief Hosts of the event are Ambassador (Dr.) Kayode Ishola and Ambassador (Dr.) Victor Ohwo.

The popular Ikeja Cantonment has been renamed T.A Lagbaja Cantonment as a way of immortalizing the former Chief of Army Staff who passed on in November, 2024.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, applauded the decision which he said was well taken in recognition of Lagbaja’s courage and service to Nigeria.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the renaming was not just about giving the Cantonment as new title but also represents the respect accorded the deceased, as well as the nation’s gratitude and recognition for his courage and sacrifices.

“By naming it after Lieutenant General Lagbaja, we pay tribute to a leader whose life exemplified courage, discipline, and patriotism.”

“His distinguished service in the Nigerian Army over three decades, particularly in counterinsurgency, internal security, and peacekeeping operations, deserves recognition.”

“I commend the Nigerian Army and the Ministry of Defence for this initiative. It reinforces a culture of recognising and celebrating our heroes and assures all patriots that their sacrifices will always be acknowledged.”

Also speaking, the Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, paid tribute to his predecessor, lauding his infrastructural developments while he served as Commander of 9 brigade.

Oluyede said the Cantonment was deemed most befitting to immortalize Lagbaja.

Lagbaja served as Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, until his death following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.

The deceased left behind a legacy of professionalism and sacrifice during his 17-month tenure.

Thursday, February 27, 2025, will forever remain etched in the minds of veteran journalists in Oyo state, as some of them were celebrated for their contributions to society and the pen-pushing profession to celebrate the first anniversary of Carnival Radio.

The event which was held at the renovated NUJ Veterans Hall located within the premises of NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, had many media practitioners, both serving and retired, in attendance. Indeed, it can be said that no journalist fully retires. They mostly transition from full-time work to part-time or from full-fledged running around in search of news to skeletal work. Either way, a newsman remains as such till the end of his time on earth.
Anchored by another veteran, Mrs. Kemi Ajayi, who retired from the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Ibadan, the programme was a beautiful blend of different parts rolled into one. It featured the first anniversary of Carnival Radio, the brainchild of Alhaji Kamoru Ademola Bakare, a seasoned journalist with over twenty years of experience in both local and international reporting; a very deep and informative Lecture delivered by Mr. Oluwafisan Bankale, Ex-ECOWAS Focal Point, International Advisory on Small Arms, and recognition awards which included the donation of cash gifts to fifteen veteran journalists.
Bakare who joined virtually from his base in the United States of America appreciated all attendees and congratulated the awardees. He challenged the Federal Government to make the process of acquiring operational licences easy for media organizations.

In his address, the League of Veteran Journalists Chairman, Alagba Banji Ogundele appreciated the state Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists under the leadership of Alhaji Demola Babalola for the unalloyed support the veterans receive at all times. He noted that journalism is a very tough profession which does not have the money-spinning potential of other careers in its category.
“Anyone who is involved in journalism is not there for the money. It is a service-oriented profession that does not guarantee wealth and riches. Many of us retire and have no pension to fall back on so there is the need to appreciate journalists because of the sacrifice we make for our communities.”
Alagba Ogundele then appreciated Alhaji Ademola Bakare for deeming it fit to honour veteran journalists who have given their all to the profession in the heydays.
Chairman of the occasion, AIG Oyediran Oyeyemi Adesoye psc, fsi also applauded the Carnival Radio Chairman and Founder, Alhaji Ademola Bakare, for his undying love for journalism. He appreciated the kind gesture of donating to veteran journalists and urged Bakare to make this an annual event. He then promised a cash donation for veteran journalists towards the second anniversary of the media outfit.
In his lecture titled ‘Security Issues in Nigeria: A Panoramic View’, Mr. Oluwafisan Bankale harped on the essence of education as a way of reducing crime and insecurity in the country. Bankale, a former Editor of the rested Daily Sketch, challenged citizens and government at all levels to ensure that education is prioritized for all and sundry so that crime becomes less attractive which will in turn have a positive effect on managing insecurity.
Beneficiaries of the award and donations include Pa Mike Omoleye, Pa Victor Okeyungbo, Mr. Banjo Adetoye, and Mr. Sola Akinuli, all of who previously worked at the defunct Daily Sketch. The duo of Alhaji Kayode Muritala and Mr. Sakin Babalola of Daily Sketch also received posthumous awards.

Other beneficiaries are Mr. Abayomi Akinola (News Agency of Nigeria), Pa Olalekan Akande (Information), Mr. Bisi Bakare (Nigerian Tribune), Mr. Segun Omilabu Gandhi (Nigerian Tribune), late Mr. Kayode Osifeso (Nigerian Tribune), Pastor Wole Oladele (BCOS), Mr. Ninyo Adediji (BCOS), Mr. Tunji Adepoju (NTA Ibadan) and Mrs. Bose Oyewole (FRCN, Ibadan).

Each of the beneficiaries expressed their deep gratitude to Alhaji Demola Bakare and Carnival Radio for their thoughtfulness and kindness in appreciating their committed services. They all prayed for the continued growth of Carnival Media Limited and Carnival Radio.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Gbolahan Adebayo, for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death at Ijedodo in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident occurred during the deceased’s visit to the suspect’s house on Friday.

A resident who identified himself simply as Akin told our correspondent on Monday that the 23-year-old victim was heard screaming for help around midnight while being beaten by her boyfriend.

Akin added that Adebayo later raised the alarm at daybreak after he found out she was no longer responsive after the assault.

He said, “The girl was a regular visitor to the suspect’s home and came around as usual on Friday night. But when it was about 2 am, neighbours started hearing someone screaming and later discovered it was the suspect who was beating her girlfriend in his room. The screaming lasted at intervals for about an hour.

“After that, the screaming stopped. It was in the morning that the boyfriend started shouting for help and when the neighbours who were around at that time went to attend to him, they saw the girl lying motionless on the bed.”

A police source, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity because he was not permitted to speak on the matter, said the incident was reported at the Isheri-Oshun Police Division by the suspect’s neighbour on Sunday.

The source said the girl was first taken to the hospital where she later succumbed to the injuries sustained during the incident before it was reported to the police.

“When the neighbour came, he explained that the incident happened two days ago and that efforts were first made to resuscitate the girl but she eventually passed away. As a result, a team of policemen were immediately drafted to the scene, leading to an ongoing investigation.”

When contacted, the spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.

The image maker said visible marks of violence were found on the deceased’s body, adding that her corpse had been deposited in the morgue.

He said, “One neighbour reported at Isheri Osun Division that on 21/02/25 at about 2 am, he saw his neighbour, one Gbolahan Adebayo ‘m’ age 23 years beating his girlfriend aged 25 years in his home in Ijedodo for a yet-to-be-determined reason. However, at about 7 am the said Gbolahan Adebayo reportedly screamed for help and on getting to his apartment, the said girlfriend was met lying unconscious on the bed with visible marks of violence found on the body.

“She was immediately taken to a hospital in Ijegun where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. Based on the report, a team of detectives visited the scene of the incident. The hospital was also visited, where the corpse was inspected and photographed. The corpse was evacuated and deposited at the IDH morgue, Yaba for autopsy. The suspect was promptly arrested and an investigation is in progress on the matter,” Hundeyin concluded.
